We are currently working on a schedule for training, education and skills practice. As soon as more information is available it will be posted here.

Attention all NON-CERTIFIED DIVERS:  There are two paths available for getting certified in SCUBA diving here at the University.

First, there are two courses available through the Physical Education department. They are OPEN WATER SCUBA (PEDU 146) and ADV OPENWATER SCUBA (PEDU 154). To get exact times, dates, and openings please go to the USC Registrar's Course Search Form and perform a key word search for scuba.

Secondly, there are two primary local dive shops to provide a path for starting your adventures with Basic Open Water Certifications which is one of the requirements for qualifying you to join the club. Both facilities are excellent agencies and it is really up to you as to which center you would like to go with. We recommend talking to both of them to get exact details of what they have to offer with training, quipment, service, etc.

Wateree Dive Center located at 1767 Burning Tree Road (right off of the exit on I-26 at St. Andrews Rd. (phone: 803.731.9344) http://www.watereescuba.com
-- Provide equipment sales, rentals as well as SSI certifications.

Columbia SCUBA located at 2645 Alpine Road (phone: 803.788.9166) http://www.columbiascubasc.com
-- Provide equipment sales, rentals as well as PADI certifications.

Interested in SCUBA but you are not sure if it is for you? You don't want to spend a ton of money to find out this isn't your thing. Then try looking into a Discover SCUBA course. This course allows you to get into shallow water while donning all the equipment you need and you get to sit down and take your first breathes of air underwater. There is no commitment of buying equipment since it is all provided by the sponsor. What is also nice is that usually the cost of the class will roll over into a full certification class so you really lose out on nothing. For more information feel free to contact us at scuba@gwm.sc.edu.
